I like to examine the dark side of life through my writing. Whether it is through my novels or my poetry I find I prefer the walk along the dark side of the road over the heart lifting sunnier side. This Anthology is a walk along that road although it does include lighter moments and the occasional funny aside. Apart from the poetry in this Anthology you will also find views of life and in particular my antipathy towards organised religion alongside a couple of very short children's stories. So please read my Anthology. It will make you smile I hope as well as make you cry. I have also written and published one novel so far entitled LOVE SEX AND TIME TRAVEL. I always point out that it is not a science fiction novel as such. There are no time machines, aliens or spaceships in it but it is rather a bitter sweet love story again examining the darker side of love and life.

In 1985, when a small freckle on Fanny Gutierrez's cheek grew to the size of a quarter and turned dark brown, the young mother sought medical advice. She soon learned she had malignant melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer. In "Until the End," her husband, author Jesus L. Gutierrez, shares her battle with cancer and how the diagnosis and treatment affected Fanny, Jesus, and their two young sons. It narrates the family's very real and vivid personal experiences to show how the psychological dynamics influenced them during the nine long and uncertain years of their cancer battle. This memoir provides insight into this particular form of cancer and shows how patients can serve the scientific community by being pioneers in the search for a cure. "Until the End" pays tribute to Fanny and demonstrates the deep love she held for her husband and her children. It communicates the life-and-death decisions she made in regard to her health in order to extend her longevity. Most of all, it describes how she never lost her willingness to fight against the disease until the end. "?By writing about this distressing experience, Jesus has remarkably transformed the death of his wife Fanny from a private, tragic event to an instrument to end his suffering and sorrow. At the same time, he has used it as a testimony to help others to fight this terrible disease called cancer.?" ?Foreword from Dr. Enrique Zuniga del Campo, Psychoanalyst

There are moments in baseball that sparkle with magic. And moments that break our hearts. And then there was the moment in 1946 when one minor league baseball team's hope for magical moments came crashing to a fiery end. That season began like seasons begin, except this time even more sweetly. It was the first season right after World War II, with men returning from foxholes to dugouts, back to a game that had been put on hold, back to their dreams of the Big Leagues. Some of those men found their way to Spokane, Washington to play for the minor league club there. They were special men. They knew how to be a team and they knew how to win, especially in the waning moments of the ninth, when all that seemed lost could be won if they just imagined it. They knew how to play ball as it was meant to be played. What they did not know was how to die too young. That, they had to learn. What if the earth knew that something was about to happen and tried to prepare for it by calling to it a soul for help? A soul with a joyful heart, whose story paralleled the story of these men ... who knew, as they did, what it meant to be in a war, to watch a friend die, to strive in every moment even as the moments waned, to believe in a destiny, to feel its arrival ... who knew, as they would, how to die too young, by fire, as destiny arrived.
