Ciguatera poisoning is a worldwide problem whose impact has serious health and economic ramifications. Ciguatera Seafood Toxins provides an introduction and technical reference for this syndrome, covering topics such as medical approaches to treatment, legal avenues for those who become poisoned, and an overview of the areas where ciguatera is common. Other chapters in the text discuss research issues, such as assay systems for ciguatera, neurological effects of the disease, and light and electron microscopy studies of tissue exposed to ciguatera-type toxins. The book provides comprehensive coverage of the laboratory techniques used in the purification and molecular characterization of the toxins implicated in the disease, as well as a discussion of the genetic variability of one of the causative organisms (Gambierdiscus toxicus) in culture. This is a "must have" book for anyone concerned with ciguatera poisoning and its legal, scientific, and medical consequences.

Written by front line professionals in the fields of nursing, mental health, prison services and the law, this text is an essential companion to the government's new suicide prevention strategy. The contributors offer a wealth of practical guidance on issues such as risk assessment and management in a range of settings, policy and the legal framework around suicide. Exploring the links between self-harm and suicide, the authors present international approaches to training in suicide prevention for professionals and preventative initiatives targeting wider communities. They debate the legality and morality of assisted self-harm and analyse the rate and causes of suicide among specific groups, including Black and minority ethnic groups, people in custody and people with mental illnesses. This manual provides health, social care and criminal justice professionals with all the most up-to-date information needed to make a positive contribution to suicide prevention in institutional and community settings.

From the end of the 19th century to 1938, many children's books of artistic importance were published in Vienna. This publication is devoted to this special genre of book art, which at that time ranked in importance alongside architecture, painting, literature, music and theatre. The illustrations of notable artists such as C. O. Czeschka, Heinrich Lefler, Bertold Loffler, Koloman Moser, as well as those of numerous, talented - though as yet unknown - graphic artists are evidence of the variety of high quality works produced. Moreover, the selected children's books, divided into four chapters (I. From Monarchy to Republic, II. Bourgeois Life, III. The Modern World, IV. New Teaching Methods) can be seen in the political, social and economic context concerned. As part of daily culture, they reflect contemporary realities and utopias, which at this stage are still revealed to children by means of the 'picture book'. In a fifth chapter (V. Art for Children - Children's Art), aesthetic developments and artistic possibilities of expression are put into visual form. The historical children's book in particular reveals impressively individual artistic craftsmanship, and styles and modes typical of particular epochs. Based on around one hundred works, the publication charts not only the history of the development of the modern children's book in Vienna, but also that of the modern book art overall. Published to accompany the exhibition Jugendschatz und Wunderscherlein at MAK-Kunstblättersaal, Vienna, October 2009 – February 2010. English and German text.
